Let's Talk About Books: Week 2 {linky party}

This week's book is Duck on a Bike by David Shannon, another of my students' favorites.

Story:
There is a duck who lives on a farm.  He decides to ride a boy's bike around the farm and visit all of the animals.  However, all of the animals think he is silly to be riding a bike.  At the end, a group of kids ride by in their bikes and leave them outside.  Finally, all of the animals decide to ride the kids' bikes, just like the duck!

How to Use:
I use this book in my speech room for several things:

• final consonant deletion (especially /k/)
• predicting/inferencing
• story retell
• basic spatial concepts 
• silly/ not silly (early pragmatics)

Age Group:

I would use this book mostly with preschoolers.  However, I believe some elementary school students would enjoy it as well.  It has a simple story line that also has a bit of a pattern.  This makes it a great book for those younger students to enjoy and follow along with.  I also use it with elementary students who may be working on final consonant deletion or any speech sound and need practice reading it aloud. 

It truly is a great book.  It happened to be one of the first books I ever purchased for my students, but I am so glad I did.  Even my dog likes to read it ;)
