Let's Talk About Books: Week 1 {linky party}

Deanna Jump is hosting great linky parties this summer.  Each Tuesday, bloggers will post about books they LOVE.  I personally am hoping to learn about a lot of books I haven't heard about yet and ways I can incorporate them into my speech room.  Head over to her blog to see all of the posts.  This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

The book I'd like to talk about today is My Truck is Stuck by Kevin Lewis and Daniel Kirk!

If you are interested in buying the book, you can find it here:

I first discovered this book during my early childhood placement in grad school.  It was a book that my students kept requesting and coming back to.  I knew that I had to add it to my collection if it was going to be that popular.  The premise is that there is a dump truck driving doing the road, and it gets stuck in a hole.  Various vehicles full of animals come by to help, but no one can quite get him out.

One of the reasons I love this book so much is the amount of areas/goals you can target with it.  Some of them include:

  • Phonological awareness
  • Final consonant deletion
  • Environmental sounds
  • Basic concepts (round, more, go)
  • Inferences
  • Teamwork/ pragmatics
  • Vocabulary
I'm sure there are many more than that, but those are the areas we used the book for.   I created a preschool storybook companion to go along with it.   You can find more information about it here.  You can find it in my Teachers Pay Teachers store if you're interested.

Hope you love this book as much as I do!  Stay tuned for more books recommendations and linky parties this summer.
