You may have heard about this wonderful app called Storybook Maker. It has been reviewed by a bunch of other SLP bloggers, so be sure to check out their posts about it! Here's how I had some fun with it!!
When you first open the app, you're taken to your library:
You can also click on "Public Library," which has A LOT of shared books from other people!
You can download all of those into your library if you want! Now the fun stuff!! You can make your own book! Type in the book's name and press "Create book."
Then, choose which style page you want to create. You have 12 amazing options!
Once you choose the page style you want, the real fun begins. You can add a photo or use the images in their library.
Here's one option for using their images-the alphabet. But they have a LOT of options. Just scroll through them at the top there.
I started making a book about going to the doctor (Social Stories style). As I was playing around with it, I discovered that you can add audio to your books!
You can also add borders by clicking the purple border box in the upper left hand corner and/or you can add background color by clicking the orange box. It makes it so much more fun and definitely less boring!
You have several options for sharing your book. You can save it as a PDF and/or share it with everyone else. Just go to your library, highlight the book, and click "Share."
You will have so much fun with this app, and so will your students!!
Here's some potential goals you can target with this app. This is not a comprehensive list by any means:
-Narrative skills
-Story retell
-Articulation
-Expressive and Receptive Language
-Grammar
-Social Skills
-Reading Comprehension
-Listening Comprehension
-Vocabulary
-Following Directions
Why I Love this App:
-It can target a lot of different goals
-You can use these activities as carryover
-You can print these books to send home with the students
-Students get to be creative
-You can get it for a great price ($3.99 currently on iTunes)

ReplyDeleteI would use this App to create wonderful personalised books for my class relating to themes and a welcome book for each child telling them about our school/class. I'd love to use it with the children too. So many options. :-)
