Speech Room Inventory Forms {freebie}

As I am getting ready for my very first speech room, I am trying to be as organized as possible.  One of the first things I plan to do is make a list of everything I have, both that I own and that the school owns/ is providing.  The easiest way for me to keep track of this is to write it down.  So, I created these simple, but cute forms!

There is one form for each of the following areas:
-Storybooks
-Games
-Articulation Materials
-Language Materials
-Social Communication Materials
-Fluency Materials
-Voice Materials
-blank

Oh, and did I mention these are editable?   Just type right in the boxes.

Hope this freebie helps you to keep your speech room more organized!!  You can download it here in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.   Enjoy!

Plan of the Day Posters {freebie}

One of the big pushes happening at my school right now is metacognition.   According to Merriam Webster, metacognition is the awareness or analysis of one's own learning or thinking processes.  For us, that means talking about our plan for our sessions and then reviewing what we have done at the end of our sessions.  We do this ALL of the time with our students who benefit from visual schedules.  When we forget about it is with those students who do not need visual schedules.

So this prompted me to create Plan of the Day posters for myself and my students to use.  I placed it in a sheet protector, which allows me to erase it between sessions.  It has worked very well so far!! Sometimes, the students want to write on it themselves. I love when they get involved.

I hope this is something you can use for yourself and your students in your speech room, so I've created a freebie for you!  There are two sets of wording, based on your preference/ age level of students.  I've also included three border options.

If you think this would be helpful to you, please head over to my TpT store to download it!! You can find it here.  Feedback is always appreciated!

Hope this is helpful!

Fast Dash Categories {FREEBIE}

I have a brand new FREEBIE for you today: Fast Dash Categories!  This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

I have previously posted about a game I found at Goodwill called Wild Planet Hyper Dash.

You can find a Fast Dash Articulation Packet for Early Sounds here and a Fast Dash Phonology packet here based on this game.

You DO NOT need the game to do this activity! (I do provide an option for you if you do own it, though).

Spread out five or six circles (category cards) of different colors.

Students will listen as the SLP calls out different colors.  The student will pick up those colors in order as fast as they  can.  Students collect their dots and state the items in the categories listed on the cards.

If you have the Hyper Dash game: Put the cards on top of the disks.  Students will listen as the Hyper Dash Unit calls out which color to pick up.  When the student pushes that color, they collect the card.  Once that round is over, the student will state items in the categories listed on the cards.

You can find this FREEBIE here

Hope you enjoy it!

Hollywood Feud {FREEBIE}

This is a fun 9 page FREEBIE with lots of fun facts about actors and actresses with a focus on listening comprehension. It includes an instruction page, 2 stars, 28 fact cards, 4 blank cards, and 4 question prompt cards.

The SLP will draw a fact card and a question prompt card.

Fact Cards

Question Prompt Cards

He/she will read the fact card. He/she will then read a follow up question to the students based on the question prompt card drawn. The students will reach for their stars as soon as the question is read and they think they know the answer. They will raise their stars in the air.

Whoever raises their star in the air first will answer the question. It is suggested that the SLP also ask each student what he/she was going to answer, too, for more participation opportunities.
If the student answers correctly, he/she keeps the card. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins!

Modification for Articulation practice—students find a word with their sound in it. The SLP will drill that word!

You can find this FREEBIE here.  Thanks so much for all of your support!!

Guest Post: Carrie Manchester from Carrie's Speech Corner

I am so excited to have Carrie write a guest post for me today!! I hope you enjoy it! :)

Carrie Manchester is a licensed, ASHA certified speech and language pathologist working in a public elementary school.  Her caseload currently consists of primarily preschool-aged students.  In her spare time, Carrie writes the Speech Blog Carrie's Speech Corner.  You can follow her blog on Facebook and Twitter.  Click here to view her TPT store and here to follow her on Pinterest.

Hi everyone!  I was so excited to have Carissa write a guest post for me and her New Year's Receptive Language Packet was a huge hit!  Thank you so much Carissa!

I wanted to reciprocate and share one of my newest activities with the readers of Home Sweet Speech Room!  So, today I'd like to share with you Snowy Speech and Language Activities:

There are five different activities in this download.  Three are speech-specific and two are open-ended.

First, we have Build a Snowman Game:

Build a Snowman Cards

Extra Turn Cards

Foil Cards

This is a simple open-ended card game.  Students take turns drawing a card.  If they get a snowman piece, they keep it.  If the student draws a sun card, the sun melts their snowman and they return all of their cards to the center of the table.  If they draw a snowflake, they get to take an extra turn.  The first student to get one each of cards 1-4 is the winner.

Next, we have Snowball Categories:

You get four snowman category mats (Winter Animals, Winter Clothing, Winter Activities, and Parts of a Snowman) and 18 snowballs with images.  Cut out snowballs and place face down on the table.  Have students draw a snowball and place under the appropriate category heading. There are blank snowmen and snowballs so that you can add your own categories to this activity.

Third, is Describing Similarities:

There are 18 cards, each with a snowman and two images.  Instruct the students to describe the similarities between the two items.  For example, in the first card, a car and a truck are alike because they are both vehicles.

Fourth, Listening for Details:

There are 4 pages with 4 cards each (16 cards total).  The cards contain short stories (1-3 sentences) and a comprehension question for students to answer.

Finally, Winter Wonderland is an open-ended board game:

You can use this with the language activities in this download or with your own articulation or language decks.
